Sitting in Alberta, Marmot Basin provides an affordable alternative to skiing the Rockies. Although it doesn't see as much snowfall as other resorts in the region, the few crowds here means the powder stays fresher for longer, plus it has the second highest base elevation in Canada. The mountain offers up above and below the tree line terrain as well as a wide variety of runs. For lodging, nearby Jasper has a range of choices to suit all budgets.

It's a bit out of the way, but Jasper is a really nice resort town. The time I went, I didn't get great snow but we had fun with what it was. There are lots of places to sleep and lots of places to eat. The riding is decent and they have a reasonably long season. It's a reasonable drive from Edmonton if Edmonton is on your way.... More
