Build your Rusutsu Ski Trip
Learn more about Rusutsu
Pros
- Amazing quality powder with annual snowfall of over 500 in
- Slopes are much less crowded than nearby Niseko
- Great mix of off-piste and corduroy groomers to ski
Cons
- Lack of nightlife and only accessible by bus or car
Overall
For incredibly deep powder like Niseko but without the crowds, there's no better resort in Japan than Rusutsu! The mountain sees tons of light and dry snow and there's plenty to bounce through in the sidecountry and between the trees. There's also a good amount of groomers which are loved by locals meaning anything off-piste generally remains untracked for longer. The limited nightlife, dining, and variety of accommodation may disappoint some visitors here but for any keen powderhound, Rusutsu is an absolute dream!

Absolutely loved Rusutsu (Japan)!! The hotel has a convenient two-person lift within one minute walk/ski that takes you directly to the base ropeway. The courses accommodate beginners through advanced. Plus, they allow inbound skiing in the trees! In fact, they have a hidden ski/board park with awesome obstacles in the forest. From the Isola Peak,... Moreadvanced skier

Great tree skiing. Best in Hokkaido. Groomed runs are mostly wide open and boring. Take the tram across and hit the glades. The resort is an older-style corporate hotel without charm. Take the bus here from Annupuri.... Moreexpert skier

Wonderful food and hot spring!! The resort had a combined facility with hotel, restaurant, shopping mall and hot spring. Especially the hot spring made a huge highlight on our ski trip with friends, and the food is the best compared to all resorts I’ve been to in US/Canada/Europe.... Moreadvanced skier

Rusutsu has the sweetest powder on the groomers and the tree skiing is epic. Spread over 3 mountains the wide trails are deserted . The best ski holiday in Australasia !!... Moreadvanced skier

Best resort in Japan. All the snow of Niseko and none of the crowds. Fresh lines all day! Plus there's an abandoned theme park, what more could you want? I've ridden all over Japan and Rusutsu is the best.... Moreadvanced snowboarder

Rusutsu is very great, smaller than other neighboring resorts but still very upmost quality. Will want to go again as I know it is a state of the art resort.... Moreintermediate snowboarder

Rusutsu is a little smaller than the nearby Niseko area, but offers very good value for the price. The snow amount is comparable to Niseko and it is much less crowded. The West mount offers a very family friendly area with several gentle slopes, while the east mount and Mt. Isola have several very challenging runs to offer.
I can definitely... Moreadvanced snowboarder

We were staying in Niseko and wanted to explore the surrounds and Rusutsu was recommended. We liked it so much, we went back a second day. An extremely family friendly resort with kids rides in hotel foyer and definitely geared towards the family ski holiday. But more than ample terrain for me a 20+ yr skier and my colleague a boarder. Excellent... Moreadvanced skier

Easily accessible with a short bus ride from Kutchan. Stops right outside the main Hotel with quick access to the lifts and probably the best champagne powder you will ever experience in the world.
It will be very difficult to stop grinning after the day in an osen with a nice cool Sapporo beer to end the day.... Moreexpert skier

Rusutsu is a really good resort for backcountry and powder skiing, especially because it gets the same amount of snow as niseko, just not the crowds because it's less known than Niseko.... Moreexpert skier
