Ski Resorts in Illinois
You'll find the largest ski terrain park in the Midwest at Chestnut Mountain, which also happens to be Illinois’s largest ski resort. The ski hills in Illinois are much smaller than Wisconsin resorts but there is night skiing statewide!
Getting there
- Fly into the main Illinois airports: O’Hare International Airport or Chicago Midway International Airport which are much closer to the smaller resorts: Four Lakes Alpine Snowsports, Villa Olivia and Raging Buffalo. Bigger resorts such as Chestnut Mountain and Snowstar are further away in the west. The closest international airport to Chestnut Mountain is Chicago Rockford International Airport and Quad City International Airport for Snowstar.
- Best way to resorts from the airports in Chicago is by hiring a car or taking a transfer. The smaller resorts are only 30-minutes drive away from O’Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport, but it’s a 3-hour drive to the popular resorts, Chestnut Mountain and Snowstar. If you're short on time, Chestnut Mountain is a 1.5 hour from Chicago Rockford International Airport. Driving from Quad City International Airport to Snowstar will only take 20 minutes.
